Project Selection-My Decision

Through thorough analysis and evaluation I have decided to pursue the magazine project for my exam project. This choice is best fit for me because of my individualism and my experience as a writer. I love looking at new topics in a certain area of culture that I like and would love to experience the process of creating a magazine. Writing is the biggest factor of why I chose this because I will be writing on a topic that I am interested in therefore i will dedicate my all and truly produce a high quality product. I am also very good at researching and finding the information I need via through the internet or credited sources. This is a skill that I have developed and mastered through my schooling. The magazine project truly plays into my strengths as a student and will show my true capabilities. For my project I will be making a Rap/Hip-Hop magazine. It will outline current culture trends, hot artists, up and coming rappers, and controversial topics within the industry. I would categorize my magazine as a culture magazine where a community can come to find new and relevant information about the industry weather it be future, past, or present. On this project I will have one other group member, Ethan McNary. He presents photography skills and creative thinking with valuable knowledge on the industry already. He attends concerts regularly and will be a huge contribution for our photography and potential topics for our magazine articles.

Project selection-Film

The film process is a very involved process that takes a lots of focus and preparation on all steps. Although its a very challenging process I have abilities that would be beneficial towards the process. I am a creative thinker that can view things differently from the typical view point. This would benefit in creating shots for certain scenes to emit emotions that I would want to provoke i my film. I am also very good at managing people and thoroughly planning projects. Bringing together a team that corroborates and works efficiently together is needed in any good film production. With a cast and crew that works together efficiently it makes the film process that much easier and is a skill that I could provide of value. Some challenges that could potentially come up during film production is casting and equipment. Since we aren't a big time film studio the casting pool for the film could be scarce and come down to very amateur actors. The equipment needed to make certain shots and to get high quality film can be expensive also. This high cost would cause to film production quality to be degraded to to lack of access of high level equipment. The film process does intrigue me as I saw behind the scenes of how Ferris Bueler's Day Off. The corroborative work and how the team worked together as a unit interested me. It influenced my opinion on the process and made me want to go through the experience of the creative process of film making.

Project Selection-Magazine

Through rigorous research and content observation I have learned tons on the print media industry and print journalism aspects. The print industry process is an intensive and collaborative process that intrigues me in a lot of aspects. The print industry requires a lot of collaboration throughout the process. This was witnessed throughout all my research while viewing "All the Presidents Men" and "The Newsroom". Reporters, Anchors, Editors are all working together constantly communicating and problem solving together. they all work together to complete the final goal of getting that story and really makes the print industry feel like a team effort. Print media challenges people, to find the facts of what truly is going on behind the story. Finding facts and discovering valuable information is a skill needed for the print media industry. Being a valuable researcher is a quality that intrigues me and seems to be very useful outside the industry as well. You see these skills used in the print media industry all the time for example in "All The Presidents Men" they had to track down the money to find the statements and the people they needed to finish the story. This process of finding the story and facts is a skill I am wanting to enhance and refine to further my research to be more efficient and in depth. The industry requires a lot of skills to be able to do well in but I believe some of my skill sets would work nicely in the process. I'm quite well tasked at asking the right questions and manipulating those to get answers out of them. This skill would be very valuable in the industry when finding a story. I saw this ability use in "All The Presidents Men" with questioning and techniques that were out of the box but worked in finding the truth. Finding what is valuable is a strength that I would be able to implement easily and add value to my magazine product. The magazine project will require a lot of skills that are implemented in everyday use but the process is one that is intriguing to me.
